Why is my bandwidth low on zoom – why is my bandwidth low on zoom:. How to Reduce Zoom Data Use

Looking at the switches they are all connected via ethernet and not wifi the bandwidth usage is relatively low. There isn’t any dropped packets or high cpu utilization on the switch. The internet bandwidth is also pretty low, It is about 20 Mbps down and about 3 Mbps up and we have a Mbps up and down connection. Can anyone please point me in a direction to look?

Even though CPU usage for the switch or firewall may not be high, your total bandwith is being shared for all uses, you may need to set a certain QoS level for Zoom in order for everyone to have a pleasant experience. I haven’t looked at QoS settings yet. But I would think, since total bandwidth isn’t maxing out, or getting close to anything, that it wouldn’t be an issue. But I will look at that now. I’d look at those numbers. We see about 3mbps up per connected user.

Is your firewall throttling user bandwidth? Your numbers indicate only 1 user connected to Zoom. It sounds like something on the network is throttling that connection. Using Zoom without video would help you get by until you can track down the issue.

Like previously mentioned, the first thing I would check is if uploads are being throttled. Secondly I would stop using Zoom Immediately for security issues. Other software automatically accounts for less than desirable bandwidth. This topic has been locked by an administrator and is no longer open for commenting. Examples of data-intensive programs might include streaming video or music sites, or other websites with dynamic content. You can always check your network usage using Activity Monitor on the Mac or Task Manager in Windows to pinpoint which programs are data hogs.

Click Video in the left-hand menu. When you do screen share, only share as long as absolutely necessary Be sure to stop screen sharing when you no longer need to show your screen. Use online collaborative documents rather than screen sharing Certain services, like Box Notes, Office Online Documents, and Google Apps let multiple people open and edit the file at once.

Mute your audio when not speaking While it doesn’t use as much bandwidth as your video, you can also reduce your bandwidth somewhat by muting your audio when you’re not speaking. Improving your Zoom performance overall Limit high-bandwidth activities by others at your location Other people using the Internet from your remote location will affect the bandwidth available to your Zoom session. Avoid running other data-intensive applications during Zoom sessions Improve your overall Zoom client performance by not running other applications during meetings that might also be using a large share of your bandwidth.

First navigate to your Zoom settings. On the desktop Zoom client, you can find the gear icon for settings in the top right corner when you first open the app. Once you get to Settings, click the Video tab on the left-hand side, and untoggle the box that says Enable HD. Screen sharing takes up more data than just broadcasting a live video. If you want to pinch pennies with data, show what you need to show with your screen sharing, and then hop back to your normal camera.

You can always use a collaborative document like a Google Doc instead of screen sharing. People on the shared doc can see what everyone else contributes to the doc in real time. If your Zoom calls look as fuzzy as s basketball used to look on TV, then it might be time to consider upgrading your internet—preferably to a provider that offers unlimited data.
