Thus, VPN was still not an issue. Using my phone as a hotspot versus my router. Thus, my Router was in conflict with Zoom client or vice versa. Good luck! Message 6 of 7. Message 7 of 7. If that doesn’t work, think about upgrading your router to a 5GHz or 6GHz model. The 6GHz spectrum is new enough that few consumers have access to it. That means it’s unlikely to suffer from interference issues. According to the Wi-Fi Alliance’s specifications page on 6E , a 6E router has access to 14 “fat” 80Hz channels or seven “super-wide” Hz channels.

As wider channels are faster, 6E should offer both speed and reliability. Another source of wireless interference is radiation generated by un-shielded USB 3. Thanks to a bug in the USB 3.

There are several possible fixes:. Just a note on shielded cables: they have a layer of metal that protects the cable from external wireless interference. But that layer of metal also prevents the cable from functioning as an antenna for 2.

On Windows, many free apps can analyze the quality of wireless channels. For those without Windows, search your respective operating system’s app store for “Wi-Fi Analyzer,” and you’ll see dozens of options. Using Wi-Fi Analyzer is dead simple.

If it works, then the problem lies in your phone. But if not, the problem is highly likely in your network. If so, use the sections above to troubleshoot the issue. It depends on the type of internet connection. In some cases may be highly increased traffic. In others may be bad weather. Moreover, it can also be caused by countless potential issues with devices related to the network. There must be an issue either with your laptop or your internet connection. To determine which is the case, try connecting to the same network using any other of your devices.

If the other device faces the same issues, then the problem lies in your internet connection. To improve your internet connection you need to improve your internet plan and all the devices related to your internet network modem, router, switches.

If the WiFi is connected but not providing you with the internet connection, it means that your WiFi router is functioning but not having access to the web. My guess would be that it will not make any difference. Zoom and AirPort Extreme not compatible? To test that theory, you’ll have to try another router. But, before you try another modem or another router, I would first try to find out whether the Zoom issue is related to wireless. As I mentioned before, if you test using an Ethernet connection to your iMac and things work great, then you know that you have some kind of obscure issue with Zoom and the AirPort Extreme wireless that only affects you.

There are a lot of Apple AirPort routers in homes I would imagine. If this were an issue with an AirPort router and Zoom, you would think that Zoom would have known about it long ago, and there would be numerous reports of the problem on an Internet search. I find nothing in this regard. If the test using an Ethernet connection allows the Zoom service to work well, then if it were me, I would pay the money to have an electrician or installer run an Ethernet cable from the AirPort Extreme to the iMac.

A good installer will make the wire disappear. Personally, I don’t trust powerline adapters, but they can work for some users. If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, then a pair of adapters might work OK. Just make sure that you understand the store’s return policy before you buy.

I would always remove the NAT router from the equation.. NAT routers are problematic. And Comcast is now using IPv Using ethernet to the airport eliminates wireless as the issue..

Power off the modem Power off the AirPort Extreme Disconnect the Ethernet cable that is connected to the WAN “O” port on the AirPort Extreme Connect the Ethernet cable to a computer with an Ethernet port Leave the modem powered off for another minutes, then power it back up Run a few speed checks on the computer to see if your provider is delivering what their plan promotes and the modem is working correctly.

Jan 8, AM in response to DrJennings In response to DrJennings If you are saying that the wireless speeds that your iMac is picking up upstairs from the AirPort Extreme downstairs, and the speed is about the same was when you connect directly to the modem, then you have a truly amazing AirPort Extreme.

But, speed is not everything, so we need to look at few other things on your wireless signals. Go to Solution. Are you able to log into the Spectrum modem and check the cable logs to see if you are having any T3 or T4 timeouts in those logs? I appreciate the follow up! I do not have QoS turned on and have gigabit fiber internet. Tried being right next to the router when on a call, tried both wifi bands, nothing stops the “your internet connection is unstable” error in Zoom for me which causes audio to cut out for seconds at a time.

Other video call services haven’t had this issue. It sounds like you are doing all of the “reasonable” trial and error steps. And trying Wired versus Wi-Fi is another perspective. I too run Skype and Microsoft Teams and for both of those apps, the sending audio worked fine.

So I was dubious that I truly had an “unstable internet” issue. It was only my Zoom app that was cutting off my sending audio. This is my simple perspective. I ruled out firewall first If the same behaviour occured with or without using VPN, then it was not my firewall. These are some of the things that I did to “isolate” the issue and figure out that I had a conflict between Zoom and my Router.

You might have a different conflict. For me, my sending audio worked just fine in Zoom via the web. And I stopped seeing the “internet unable” message. Of course, using the web version of Zoom limits your functionality so this is NOT a fix just a test to help isolate the problem. Thus, Zoom web version works just fine and I did not have “unstable internet” issue.

If my internet is good enough for Zoom web version than it is likely that my internet is just fine for my Zoom client. So I stopped focusing on having a bandwidth issue and worrying about using wired versus wi-fi. The quality of the Internet connection is what makes and breaks Zoom meetings. If you have enough of it, you will be able to enjoy fluent, full detailed Zoom calls. If your Zoom connection is unstable, stuff like buffering and disconnects will happen.

Why does that happen and how can you avoid it? First of all — the symptoms of an unstable connection in the context of using Zoom include one or more of the following:.

There’s one word for that – streamergency – which refers to the situation where the stream breaks down or cuts out unexpectedly. Here are the most popular causes :. First — is Zoom fully functional? Check out their service status page to confirm. Then, test your online speed. Is it fast enough for Zoom video conferencing? We recently tested Zoom on a laptop and on a smartphone while running Speedify , simulating bad Internet conditions.

The results showed that Speedify was able to keep the average Zoom video call bandwidth on both devices in good range around the target bandwidth. And this happened both in situations where the connections were good and when one of them went bad. So how does Speedify achieve that? Well, it uses a technology called channel bonding that allows your to use multiple Internet connections at once. Speedify also routes data when something happens to one of your connections.

When you stumble upon a bad Wi-Fi hotspot , or your connection suddenly goes out, you will stay connected.
